To begin with, I'd like to remind you (for those who don't know) what the conversion rate is. It's an indicator that reflects the efficiency of your Shopify store: are your visitors buying, or leaving without placing an order?

Le taux de conversion correspond au pourcentage de visiteurs qui effectuent une action attendue sur votre site, comme un achat. Par exemple, si 100 personnes visitent votre boutique et que 3 commandent un produit, le taux de conversion est de 3%.
Améliorer ce taux, vous permet de booster vos ventes sans forcément augmenter votre trafic. Et pour y parvenir, il faut travailler plusieurs leviers stratégiques !

1. A well-chosen Shopify theme: the basis for conversion

The theme is the foundation of your store. It determines loading speed, ergonomics, design... and therefore your visitors' first impression. A good theme inspires confidence and facilitates navigation.

Why it's important: A theme that's too slow or poorly thought-out can turn off your visitors in the first few seconds.

  • The theme is regularly updated
  • Compatible with Shopify 2.0
  • It natively offers the functions essential to your business (product sheets, filters, etc.).
  • Highly rated, with many reviews
  • Quick to charge

2. Loading speed: don't keep your customers waiting

Chaque seconde de chargement en trop, c’est potentiellement un client de moins. Google recommande un chargement en moins de 3 secondes.

Why it's important: A slow site creates frustration and can drive customers away. This penalizes your sales and your SEO.

Please check :

  • Weight of visuals in webp format
  • Remove unnecessary or poorly optimized scripts
  • Good performance on mobile


3. Simple, intuitive navigation

Your visitors need easy access to what they're looking for. Smooth navigation keeps their attention. Don't forget the search bar, which should be clearly visible so they can quickly find what they're looking for.

Why it's important: A lost visitor is a visitor who leaves the site. Good navigation improves conversions.

4. Relevant product filters

Les filtres permettent aux visiteurs de trier rapidement vos produits selon leurs besoins (taille, prix, couleur, etc.). Surtout lorsque vous avez un grand nombre de produits variés (comme c’est le cas pour une cave à vin par exemple), les filtres vont permettre de faciliter la recherche.

Why it's important: The faster customers find what they're looking for, the more likely they are to order.

5. An optimized buying tunnel

The buying tunnel must be short, reassuring and distraction-free. Too many steps and too much friction can lead to a drop in conversion.

Why it matters: This is often where it all comes down to it. A clear tunnel limits shopping cart abandonment.

Please check :

  • Purchase possible without account
  • Visible progress indicators
  • Clear delivery/payment information
  • Payment and choice of delivery method should be available on 1 to 2 pages max.

6. Well-positioned promotions

Promotional codes and special offers are effective in triggering a purchase, if used intelligently.

Why it matters: A good promo code can tip the balance. But misused, it can have the opposite effect.

Please check :

  • Creating a sense of urgency
  • Offer free delivery above a certain value
  • Position offers in the right places on your site

7. An emailing strategy to boost sales and build loyalty

E-mail remains one of themost cost-effective levers for relaunching abandoned shopping baskets or building customer loyalty. You can design your entire emailing strategy directly on Shopify, so you never miss an opportunity to make a sale.

Why it's important: If they leave without buying, you might as well follow them up free of charge by e-mail.

  • Clear registration form

8. Simple, reassuring payment

Facilitating payment means removing the final disincentives to purchase. Offering several payment options reassures your customers and speeds up the decision-making process. Some customers will become accustomed to using a particular payment method, such as the possibility of paying in instalments for large purchases.

Why it's important: A customer ready to buy may give up if they can't find their preferred payment method.

Please check :

  • 2 to 3 minimum payment methods
  • Visible safety and trust icons
  • Offer payment in instalments


9. Visible, authentic customer reviews

Les témoignages clients apportent de la crédibilité à vos produits et ils peuvent faire toute la différence.
Beaucoup de sujets peuvent être abordés dans les avis, et parfois il y a des éléments clés auxquels on n’aurait pas pensé mais qui peuvent être importants à connaître pour les clients. Par exemple, comment taille un M sur ce site, ou est-ce que le tissu est agréable, pas trop chaud etc.

Why it's important: Social proof reassures new buyers and allows you to give more details about your products.

  • Product reviews 
  • Highlighted testimonials
  • Post-purchase follow-ups to collect new reviews


10. Visuals that highlight your products

Les images sont la vitrine de vos produits. Plus elles sont engageantes, plus elles favorisent l’achat.
N’hésitez pas à mettre des vidéos, à réaliser des 3D de vos produits, ou à la mettre en valeur à travers un beau shooting photos.

Why it's important: You can't touch the product online, so visuals have to convey everything.

Please check :

  • Several viewing angles
  • Consistent, professional visuals
  • Situational photos if possible
